Short Description:

This book introduces the C.R.E.A.T.E. Self-Leadership framework—Courage, Resilience, Empathy, Authenticity, Tenacity, and Energy—and shows how adults can intentionally model these qualities so children grow into confident, resilient, lifelong learners. It weaves the author’s personal journey from childhood struggles and single parenting to educational leadership, illustrating how self-awareness and everyday choices shape a child’s inner world.

Each chapter focuses on one pillar of self-leadership, blending brain science, real-life classroom and family stories, and practical tools that parents and educators can use in minutes a day. Readers will find simple language, reflection questions, and ready-to-use strategies such as the ‘Three-Second Test’, empathy practices, and resilience-builders they can immediately apply at home or in school.

Throughout, the book emphasises that children do not need perfect adults, but present ones who pause, reflect, and keep learning. By caring for their own energy and modeling courage, empathy, authenticity, and perseverance, adults create environments where children feel safe to be themselves, bounce back from setbacks, and lead their own lives with heart and purpose.

The Five Dimensions of Courage

Courage is not one-size-fits-all. Children need practice across five dimensions:

  • Physical Courage: Trying something new with their body, eg climbing the playground ladder, learning to swim, or performing in a play
  • Emotional Courage: Naming and sharing feelings, eg saying “I feel nervous about the test” instead of hiding fear
  • Social Courage: Speaking up or connecting with others, eg asking to join a game, raising your hand in class, or including someone who was left out
  • Moral Courage: Doing what’s right, even when it’s hard, eg saying “That’s not kind” when teasing happens, or admitting a mistake honestly
  • Intellectual Courage: Staying curious and risking mistakes, eg tackling tough math problems, experimenting in science, or writing a bold, creative story

By practicing these forms of courage, children develop the inner strength to face challenges throughout their lives.
